With Russell
Westbrook and James Harden signing huge extensions with their respective teams
this offseason, the salary for the average NBA player is increasing
rapidly. Let's take a look at the 6 highest yearly salaries in league
history.
6. Russell Westbrook
Russell has gone
through many ups and downs this offseason, losing his teammates to other squads
and also being subject to trade rumors. Westbrook just cashed out on a new
extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder. Westbrook is deserving of all the
$28.6 million he will be bringing in next season.
5. James Harden
James Harden has
just signed a extension with the Houston Rockets. Harden seems to be cashing
out these days with his new sneaker deal with Adidas and contract extension.
The contract extension with the Rockets will be helping Harden bring in $29.5
million this upcoming season.
4. Shaquille O'Neal
Everyone knows that Dwyane Wade was never the
highest paid player on his team during his time in Miami, but during the
2004-05 season Shaq was making $29.4 million dollars down in South Beach. Combine that with the low state income tax, and
it's hard to believe Shaq ever left Miami.
3. Kobe Bryant
Kobe Bryant has been
able to get paid for all he has done for the Lakers organization, especially in
two specific years. In the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons, Kobe Bryant led
the league in salary, hauling in $30.4 million for those two years.
2. Mike Conley
After literally shocking
the whole league and all NBA fans with his massive contract extension, Mike
Conley will be cashing out more than anyone next season. Conley will be making
$30.5 million this upcoming year, which is hard to believe. Yes, Conley is
productive, but is he worth that much?
1. Michael Jordan
Of course the greatest player in NBA history
would hold the record for making the most money in a single season. During the 1997–1998 season, Jordan earned $33
million with the Bulls. MJ won yet another title that year, so the salary was
definitely well deserved.
